Natural Mama: Lesley Graham    Proud Daddy: Sam

1. What made you want to have a natural child birth?
I had your standard hospital birth with my oldest daughter (I was induced and had an epidural) and it was still an amazing experience but for me I wanted to truly experience childbirth. A few of my best friends had natural births and I wanted to know what it felt like. I knew Phoebe would be my last baby, so it was now or never!

2. Did you take any birthing classes to help you prepare for a natural birth?
To prep for having a natural childbirth I didn’t take any classes. I read the Bradley Method book which I thought was really helpful for knowing what to expect and how to breathe and relax through the contractions. I also watched a lot of inspiring movies like The Business of Being Born and More Business of Being Born. Girl power!

3. Best advice you can give to someone who wants a natural childbirth but is afraid?
Your body is so cool and will amaze you so much. Other than the transition period (which is the shortest phase of childbirth) it really wasn’t scary at all. I felt in complete control of my body. Also, I was so in awe of how easy the pushing phase was when I was unmedicated. My body just convulsed that tiny baby right out. I felt INCREDIBLE after and my recovery was so much quicker. Since I have the perspective of having both kinds of births, I would definitely have a natural one again. It is just the coolest privilege.

4. A quick tip you can share for first time moms or something you wish you had known before you became a mom?
Take things a day at a time. Each day has its own worries and precious firsts and try to absorb each moment. Also, if you have a rough day, chances are the next one will be a lot happier!!
