Love- Favorite Breastfeeding Essentials

breastfeeding essentials for post

Breastfeeding is a wonderful bonding experience for mom and baby and it has many great benefits. It’s been 8 months since I first started nursing and let me tell you…It gets easier! Those first 2 months were challenging for me and I wanted to give up so many times. You are exhausted and hormonal and you just want to sleep! I am so glad that I didn’t give up because it’s been such a joy to experience this gift. There is no way I could have made it without the wonderful support of my husband, friends, lactation nurse and pediatrician (I feel like I’m giving a thank you speech). They have each played an integral part in why I am still exclusively nursing today. Here some items that proved helpful during this time.

Hands Free Pumping Bra: PumpEase Hands Free Pumping Bra You can pump and blog at the same time! Or anything else you want to do since you are hands-free. Even pump and drive.

Nursing Tank: Motherhood Maternity Nursing TankThis is all I wore for the first 4 months at home. They are great. Just snap down and nurse.

Simple and comfy and provides easy access for nursing.

For working moms or to pump an extra bottle when you are away from baby. Easy to use. Easy to carry. The Hygeia is a great eco-friendly alternative to the Medela and has great reviews.

An all natural cream that soothes sore and chapped nipples. Tip: Put a little on before pumping.

You can warm it and cool it. The Coolness soothes pain and the warmness opens up clogged ducts and increases milk production.

Breastfeeding Pillow: My Brest Friend Pillow
This was a LIFESAVER, no joke. Helps you get your baby in the right position for nursing. It’s the perfect firmness so your baby stays put. Secret Mommy Tip: Your not “supposed” to do this, but you can easily keep your baby napping on the pillow and close to you after you nurse if you’d like and you can have your hands free! And then if you need to get up just hold on to the pillow and your baby and move about. Don’t try this if you are clumsy.

You are going to be SO thirsty so keep a water bottle nearby.  This small orange is great or the pink flip cap.

Ditch the disposables. These are soft, help with leaks, machine washable and they don’t show through your bra and shirt.

I also have these. They are also soft, machine washable and I love that they are organic!

Super cute and stylish. These are great for nursing in public or to use to cover up while pumping.

These are great for boosting your milk supply.

Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding
Get a good breastfeeding book to help prepare you for nursing and so you can refer to it whenever you need to.

Breastmilk Storage:

Must have if you are pumping and need to carry your milk to and from places. Also great for using storing fresh breastmilk in your fridge for your baby. You can pump straight into the bottles, and store them. When you are done using the bottles ou can  use the ice packs and cooler for snacks and lunch.

Green Sprouts 6 Ounce Oxo-Biodegradable Milk Storage Bags . Great for freezer storage.

Eco-Friendly Simple Wishes Honeysuckle Breastmilk Storage Bags. Great for freezer storage.

Lactation Consultants: They can come in handy when you are having trouble with breastfeeding and need additional help. I had to see one a few times and they helped tremendously!
